Our Story
The Lions Club of Llandudno was Chartered in 1977. Only one of our current members, Jeff Duckenfield, remains with us as an original Charter member.
The story of how a group of like minded people came together to form a Lions Club is an interesting one but first you need to know what a Lions Club is and a bit about Lions Clubs International.
Lions Clubs International.
This is our parent organisation based in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA. The founder of the organisation was a Chicago business man, named Melvin Jones who gathered together a group of likeminded businessmen from across the USA to tackle the social problems caused after World War One and industrialization. The group formed the Association of Lions Clubs in 1917. From 1920 the organisation became international.
It is not easy to discuss the work which Lions Clubs International carries out without mentioning its work with site related charities and organisations. From its very early years the Lions the organisation had an impact on millions of individuals with its sight-related work.

Lions Clubs
To quote from the Lions Clubs New Club Development Guide "We have more volunteers in more places than any other service organization in the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give back to their communities and help those in need. Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller, and communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed - in our own communities and around the world - with unmatched integrity and energy"
