Lions Receive Freedom of Llandudno

At a Extraordinary Council Meeting this evening (17th May 2024) Gordon Woodyatt (pictured right below) was awarded the prestigious right of Freedom of Llandudno by the Llandudno Town Council.
The award recognises the service to the Town. Gordon's award, who is a member of the Llandudno Lions and currently the Club's President, was proposed by Councillor Mike Pearce and seconded by Councillor Frank Bradfield (also a Club member and past Club President). Thier proposals recalled Gordon's many years of community service, his military career and is role as the Town's parade Marshall.
In his acceptance speak Gordon, always humble in his gratitude and praise, acknowledged the work and commitment to the town by the Councillors and the officers of the Council.
As a Lion, Gordon has been President twice, Zone Chair and sits on a number of committees. Lion Gordon received an Melvin Jones Fellowship.
Congratulations Gordon. Well deserved recognition.
On the 23rd June 2023, Lions John Boyle received his Freedom of Llandudno from the Mayor, Cllr Greg Robins.
Lion John has served over 45 years in the Llandudno Lions and has been the Club President and awared the Melvin Jones Fellowship. John's community involvement extends beyond the Lions. John has been a town councillor for many years and has been Town Mayor. Sitting on a number of councill subcomittees John has been involved with the Town's firwork displays, Christmas Parades and was commitee member during the very beginings of the Victorian Extaviganza. While John retired form his council role, he could still be found attending (as part of the public) many of these committees. Most notable as a keen gardener, John was involved with the towns Llandudno In Bloom. This made John an idea member of the Llandudno Lions to be chair of the Club's Schools Environmental Project. Over the years this programme John has visited most of the town's primary schools judging how well the children look after thier schools and seeing thier environmental projects. John took great pleasure in these vistist, always reporting on the amazing work the childern do. The highlight of the year being the visit where he would, with the President of that year, present the schools with thier achievement awares and a cheque for future projects.
Lion John currently serves on the Clubs Membership commitee and has been instrumental in see many members join and go on to progress with in the organisation.
